How old do you have to be to obtain a debit card?

I'm turning 16 soon and I was planning on asking my parents for a debit card. However what are the pros and cons about it? Do 16 year old normally have debit cards?|||Sure. You need a checking account though. Talk to your parents about it. I'm 14 and have one.
