Is it true that using a debit card for online payments is unsafe?

I am trying to purchase something through Paypal with my debit card. However I've been told that it's not safe to use my bank account online because people could steal my password or something. So is it true that using debit cards for online payments is not as safe as using credit cards?|||The security of the card itself is the same no matter if you use a debit or credit card.

The difference is that with a debit card, the money is taken out of your account immediately. If someone does manage to steal the card and make a purchase, you will lose the money in the account, and have to work with the bank to get the funds returned to your account. With a credit card, if you dispute a charge then you never really lose any money yourself (assuming they accept the dispute).

In the end, it works the same either way.|||It is NOT true that debit cards are less safe than credit cards. Debit cards are as safe as any other card for online purchases. In fact, if your debit card has a credit card logo on it (ie, MasterCard or Visa), it has the same zero liability theft protection as a credit card.
